Kindergarten Writing practice
6 Kindergarten writing lessons, including spaces between words, write names with a capital, words in order, finish the sentence, asking sentences, tell me more. Each one has a short video where Pip explains the idea, a worked example, and endless new practice questions with step-by-step help when a child gets stuck.
Step 1: Spaces between words
We leave a space between words so they are easy to read.
Example: Which sentence has spaces between the words?
Tip: Look for the sentence where every word has room around it.
Step 2: Write names with a capital
Names always start with a capital letter.
Example: Which name is written the right way?
Tip: Look at the very first letter. Is it big?
Step 3: Words in order
A sentence puts words in an order that makes sense.
Example: Which sentence makes sense?
Tip: Read each one out loud. Which one sounds right?
Step 4: Finish the sentence
A sentence needs all its words to make sense.
Example: Which word finishes the sentence? I eat a ___ .
Tip: Read the sentence with each picture word. Which one makes sense?
Step 5: Asking sentences
An asking sentence asks something and ends with a question mark (?).
Example: Which one is an asking sentence?
Tip: Does it ask something? Look for the ? at the end.
Step 6: Tell me more
Good sentences tell more: what it looks like and what it does.
Example: Which sentence tells MORE?
Tip: Pick the sentence that helps you picture it best.
