Grade 7 Listening practice
5 Grade 7 listening lessons, including five-step directions, how does the speaker feel?, sale prices by ear, main idea of a talk, biased or neutral?. Each one has a short video where Pip explains the idea, a worked example, and endless new practice questions with step-by-step help when a child gets stuck.
Step 1: Five-step directions
Expert listeners can follow five steps in a row without writing them down.
Tip: Group the steps: remember the number after every two steps.
Step 2: How does the speaker feel?
Word choice shows feelings: words like finally, can't believe and thank you are clues.
Tip: Find the clue words, then ask how you would feel saying them.
Step 3: Sale prices by ear
To find a sale price, take the percent off the original price.
Tip: Find the discount, then subtract it.
Step 4: Main idea of a talk
The main idea is what the whole talk is trying to show.
Tip: Which answer would the speaker agree is their point?
Step 5: Biased or neutral?
Neutral statements report facts. Biased statements use loaded words to push an opinion.
Tip: Listen for emotional words like ridiculous or incredible.
