Grade 4 Listening practice
5 Grade 4 listening lessons, including hear big numbers, time by ear, sound-alike words, math by ear, listen and infer. Each one has a short video where Pip explains the idea, a worked example, and endless new practice questions with step-by-step help when a child gets stuck.
Step 1: Hear big numbers
Listen for thousands, then hundreds, then the rest. A missing place gets a zero.
Tip: Write the thousands first. If you hear no hundreds, put a 0 there.
Step 2: Time by ear
Elapsed time is how much time passes from start to end.
Tip: Count the hours first, then the minutes.
Step 3: Sound-alike words
Homophones sound the same but are spelled differently: there, their, they’re.
Tip: Think about what the word means in the sentence.
Step 4: Math by ear
Hold the numbers in your head and listen for the action word.
Tip: Words like gave away or ate mean take away. Got more means add.
Step 5: Listen and infer
Speakers drop clues. Put the clues together to figure out what they don’t say.
Tip: Clues + what you know = inference.
